Since 2016, AFC has been freeing modern-day slaves in Pakistan.
Modern-day slavery is typically the result of an emergent expense. An impoverished family has a medical emergency or other immediate expense and are forced to sell everything. Many times, their personal belongings are not enough, so they take a loan from the brick kilns and agree to work off the debt.
The loan interest is exorbitant, and the head of household unwittingly sell themselves (and their families) into slavery. Forced to work up to 12 hours a day, 6 days a week their debt never seems to lessen. One woman borrowed $500; she worked more than 5 years but only paid back $100. These people simply have no hope of ever being free. Slaves are beaten, robbed of wages, and sexually abused. When they die, their debt is inherited by their children and the cycle of slavery is perpetuated.
We encourage you to break the cycle of slavery and provide hope to the hopeless.
What does restoring hope look like?
The average debt is $200 (or 10 years labor) per person in a family.
Consider what 10 years of a life is worth.
Now is your chance to help a slave family gain freedom by beginning a new life with food, accommodation, and work. Please consider providing hope to a family today. Please contact us for information on families who are available to free.
